Classroom Discipline and Management Ideas
Welcome to my Classroom Discipline and Management Page! This page is a collection of Discipline and Management Ideas that I've collected over my years as a classroom teacher. Some ideas are my own, others are from friends, co-workers, and the internet. I hope that you find something you can use in your classroom.
Keys to Classroom Discipline Be consistent in the application of discipline. Be fair. Show courtesy to students, and display trust and confidence in them all. Avoid showing dislike for any student. Let students tell you their side. Maintain student confidentiality when correcting behavior. Make sure punishments are appropriate for the misbehavior and age of the student. Consistent self-control is a teacher’s best tool to influence the control of others. Negative begets negative behavior.
Classroom Discipline Ideas Pull Card System--Visit Color Me Happy for an example of this system in an elementary classroom Group Points--Assign points to teams that display appropriate behaviors. At the end of the week, give a prize or certificate to the team who reaches the weekly goal. 1-2-3--Count 1 for first inappropriate behavior, Count 2 for the second display of the same behavior, and Count 3 for the third display. At three the student must go to the time-out area for an age appropriate time-out. Homework on Time--Students who turn homework in on time are given a H.O.T. ticket. Collect the tickets in a jar. At the end of the week pull two winners and award them with a prize of your choice. I use drink boxes. Caught Being Good Jar--Anytime you see a student being good, award them with a ticket. Collect the tickets in a jar, hold a drawing a the end of the week and award a prize to the winner.
